University of Manheim-PHD

Ph.D. Programs

Financial Support

Thanks to the funding by the German Science Foundation (DFG), first-year students can be fully financed by grants. Students who have successfully passed the first year of doctoral studies, will be funded either through grants or research or teaching assistantships. The decision about the form of continuation finance is made after the first year of doctoral studies. Doctoral grants are in the range of € 1.100 (not subject to income taxation).

Students who are financed by another institution should mention this in their application.

PhD scholarships and fellowships at Aarhus University

Welcome to an international university with high ambitions

Lauritz B. Holm-Nielsen, RectorAs rector of Aarhus University, I would like to welcome highly qualified students from all over the world. Aarhus University wants to recruit PhD students from among the best students in the world. The university has ambitions of increasing the number of PhD students at our graduate schools. There are currently approximately 1,450 students enrolled in PhD degrees at the university, and during the course of the next few years, we expect to boost this figure to 2,000 PhD students.

Aarhus University offers attractive four-year PhD scholarships and three-year PhD fellowships. The PhD scholarships are intended for students who have yet to complete a Master’s degree, but who have the ability and ambition to complete a PhD degree within four years. The three-year PhD fellowships are intended for students who have already passed a course of education corresponding to a Master’s degree, and who are thus ready to begin PhD studies.

The university hopes that highly qualified, top-motivated students from all over the world will regard these scholarships as an opportunity for completing an internationally recognised PhD degree programme that will qualify them to play a distinct role in the knowledge society of the future.

Masdar the First Clean Energy

As the first major hydrocarbon-producing economy to take such a step, Abu Dhabi has established its leadership position by launching the Masdar Initiative. The Masdar Initiative driven by the Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company (Masdar), a wholly owned subsidiary of the Mubadala Development Company (Mubadala) is a global cooperative platform for the open engagement in the search for solutions to some of mankind's most pressing issues: energy security, climate change and the development of human expertise in sustainability.

Abu Dhabi is leveraging its substantial resources and experience in global energy markets into the technologies of the future. One key objective of Masdar is to position Abu Dhabi as a world-class research and development hub for new energy technologies, effectively balancing its strong position in an evolving world energy market.

A related objective is to drive the commercialization and adoption of these and other technologies in sustainable energy, carbon management and water conservation. In doing so, Masdar will play a decisive role in Abu Dhabi's transition from technology consumer to technology producer.

The goal is the establishment of an entirely new economic sector in Abu Dhabi around these new industries, which will assist economic diversification and the development of knowledge-based industries, while enhancing Abu Dhabi's existing record of environmental stewardship and its contribution to the global community.
